On Thursday, September 14, CalChamber employment law experts will be giving best practices for addressing performance and behavioral issues in the workplace in a live webinar.
The webinar, “Effective Strategies for Handling Discipline and Termination in the Workplace,” will cover how discipline and termination can become unlawful, offering practical guidance on making strategic and well-reasoned personnel decisions.
Addressing employee performance or behavioral issues can be difficult and uncomfortable, but taking disciplinary measures provides several benefits for the employer and the employee. Discipline provides justification for an employer’s personnel decisions while demonstrating an employer’s commitment to standards and fairness for their entire workforce. Discipline also provides employees with the opportunity to address concerns and show growth.
Some employees, however, do not improve or correct their shortcomings, and termination is a necessary next step. Employers must carefully evaluate the circumstances surrounding each termination decision to ensure that although well-intentioned, it is not unlawful.
