CalChamber Statement on Governor’s Proposal to Fight Organized Retail Crime

California Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jennifer Barrera issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s proposal to combat organized retail crime:

“We applaud the Governor for his leadership to combat organized retail crime. The budget package announced today by Governor Newsom designates significant resources for improved public safety and prosecutorial efforts. This is welcome news. We urge the Legislature to approve this budget package so the problems created by these organized theft rings can be most effectively addressed. For months, California retailers have been victimized by a crime wave that has created fear for shoppers, harmed tourism and perhaps most importantly exposed retail workers to scary, unsafe working conditions. Californians have had enough. Law enforcement needs both resources and the support of policy makers so these crimes can be prevented and prosecuted.”
