Georgia is a country located in Eastern Europe and Western Asia, bordered by the Black Sea to the West, Russia to the North and East, Turkey to the Southwest, Armenia to the South, and Azerbaijan to the Southeast. Georgia has a population of 3.714 million and a GDP of $15.846 billion in 2020.

Georgie is a developing country and is classified as “very high” on the Human Development Index. Economic reforms since Georgia’s independence have led to higher levels of economic freedom and reductions in corruption, poverty, and unemployment. Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and other international organizations. Georgia applied to join the European Union in March of 2022.
U.S. exports to Georgia totaled $672 million in 2021. The top export category was used or secondhand merchandise which accounted for 55% of all exports. Other top exports included transportation equipment, chemicals, and processed foods. Imports from Georgia into the U.S. totaled $190 million in 2021. Top imports included primary metal manufactures, which made up $124 million of the total, followed by petroleum and coal products, and chemicals.
California exports to Georgia totaled $93 million in 2021, a decrease from pre-pandemic levels of $135 million in 2019. Top exports include used or secondhand merchandise, which account for 63.4% of the total, followed by transportation equipment, and agricultural products. Imports from Georgia into California totaled $9 million in 2021, with $7 million in primary metal manufactures alone.
