Georgia has a population of 3.76 million and a GDP of $30.54 billion in 2023.

Georgia is a developing country and is classified as “very high” on the Human Development Index. Economic reforms since Georgia’s independence have led to higher levels of economic freedom and reductions in corruption, poverty, and unemployment.  Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and other international organizations. Georgia applied to join the European Union in March of 2022.

U.S. – Georgia Trade

U.S. exports to Georgia totaled $1.5 billion in 2023. The top export category was used or secondhand merchandise which accounted for $1.09 billion of all exports. Other top exports included transportation equipment ($178 million), processed foods ($82 million), chemicals (438 million), and computer and electronic products ($38 million).

Imports from Georgia into the U.S. totaled $113 million in 2023. Top imports included primary metal manufactures, which made up $60 million of the total, followed by beverage and tobacco products ($9 million), apparel and accessories ($8 million), chemicals ($7 million), and non-electrical machinery ($5 million).

California -Georgia Trade

California exports to Georgia totaled $214 million in 2023. Top exports include used or secondhand merchandise ($145 million), transportation equipment ($34 million),  agricultural products ($20 million), plastics and rubber products ($7 million), and computer and electronic products ($3 million).

Imports from Georgia into California totaled $3 million in 2023, with beverages and tobacco products ($1 million) and apparel and accesories, processed foods, reimports, and chemicals and less than $1 million.
