Georgia is a country located in Eastern Europe and Western Asia, bordered by the Black Sea to the West, Russia to the North and East, Turkey to the Southwest, Armenia to the South, and Azerbaijan to the Southeast. Georgia has a population of 3.94 million people and a GDP of $38.18 billion in 2025.
Georgia is a developing country and is classified as “very high” on the Human Development Index. Economic reforms since Georgia’s independence have led to higher levels of economic freedom and reductions in corruption, poverty, and unemployment. Georgia is a member of the Council of Europe, Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation, and other international organizations. Georgia applied to join the European Union in March of 2022.
