Romania is located in Southeastern Europe and is the 12th largest country in Europe and the sixth most populous. It has a population of 19.06 people and GDP of $351 billion as of 2023. Bucharest is the capital and largest city in the country. The Danube River flows through Europe and empties into Romania’s Danube Delta.
Romania is classified as a developing country with a high-income economy, having experienced rapid growth in the early 2000s. Romania is a member of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union.
U.S. – Romania Trade
Exports to Romania from the U.S. totaled $1.3 billion in 2023. Computer and electronic products made up $366 million of the total, followed by transportation equipment ($199 million), non-electrical machinery ($183 million), chemicals ($106 million), and primary metals manufactures ($87 million).
U.S. imports from Romania totaled $3.99 billion in 2023. Electrical equipment made up $657 million of the total, followed by primary metals ($574 million), computer and electronic products $487 million, transportation equipment ($487 million), primary metals manufactures ($448 million), and plastics & rubber products ($309 million).

California exported $96 million worth of goods to Romania in 2023. Computer and electrotonic products made up $28 million of total exports, followed by non-electrical machinery ($12 million), miscellaneous manufactures ($12 million), transportation equipment ($10 million), and chemicals ($10 million).

Romania is also a member of the WTO.
