Voting BoothBelow is an unofficial summary of yesterday’s California election results. Mailed-in ballots are still being counted, so it could be weeks before final results are known. This list was written and compiled by Chris Micheli, lobbyist at Aprea & Micheli, and adjunct professor of law at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law.

Ballot Measures

  • Proposition 1: PASSED
    ACA 10 (Atkins) Resolution Chapter 97, Statutes of 2022. Reproductive freedom.
  • Proposition 26: FAILED
    Authorizes new types of gambling. Initiative constitutional and statutory amendment.
  • Proposition 27: FAILED
    Allows online and mobile sports wagering. Initiative constitutional amendment and statute.
  • Proposition 28: PASSED
    Provides additional funding for arts and music education in public schools. Initiative statute.
  • Proposition 29: FAILED
    Requires on-site licensed medical professional at kidney dialysis clinics and establishes other state requirements. Initiative statute.
  • Proposition 30: FAILED
    Provides funding for programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing tax on personal income over $2 million. Initiative statute.
  • Proposition 31: PASSED (which means the statute was not repealed and goes into effect)
    Referendum challenging a 2020 law prohibiting retail sale of certain flavored tobacco products.

All of the Assembly seats were up in November for election. Current partisan composition is 60 Democrats; 19 Republicans; 1 Independent. There are 22 new Assembly Members out of 80 seats.
