Bucharest is the capital and largest city in the country. The Danube River flows through Europe and empties into Romania’s Danube Delta.
Romania is classified as a developing country with a high-income economy, having experienced rapid growth in the early 2000s. Romania is a member of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union.
U.S. – Romania Trade
Two-way goods trade between Romania and the United States totaled $5.27 billion in 2025, with U.S. exports to Romania being $1.40 billion. Computer and electronic products made up $403 million of the total, followed by transportation equipment ($247 million), non-electrical machinery ($182 million), chemicals ($129 million), and electrical equipment, appliances, & components ($79 million).
U.S. imports from Romania totaled $3.91 billion in 2025, with electrical equipment, appliances and components making up the largest portion of imports at $719 million. This was followed by computer and electronic products ($678 million), transportation equipment ($413 million), primary metals manufactures ($375 million), and plastics and rubber products ($315 million).

California – Romania Trade
California exported $120 million worth of goods to Romania in 2025, a 21 percent increase compared to 2024 and a continuation of a gradual increase in exports since 2021. Non-electrical machinery made up $33 million of total exports, this was followed by computer and electronic products ($30 million), miscellaneous manufactures ($18 million), chemicals ($12 million), and transportation equipment ($12 million).
Imports into California from Romania totaled $229 million in 2025.
