Bucharest is the capital and largest city in the country. The Danube River flows through Europe and empties into Romania’s Danube Delta.
Romania is classified as a developing country with a high-income economy, having experienced rapid growth in the early 2000s. Romania is a member of the United Nations, NATO, and the European Union.
U.S. – Romania Trade
Exports to Romania from the U.S. totaled $1.26 billion in 2024. Computer and electronic products made up $326 million of the total, followed by transportation equipment ($197 million), non-electrical machinery ($151 million), chemicals ($105 million), and electrical equipment, appliances, & components ($88 million).
U.S. imports from Romania totaled $3.91 billion in 2024, with electrical equipment, appliances and components making up $664 million of the total. This was followed by computer and electronic products ($596 million), primary metals ($423 million), transportation equipment ($403 million), and non-electrical machinery ($345 million).
California – Romania Trade
California exported $106 million worth of goods to Romania in 2024, with computer and electronic products making up $29 million of total exports. This was followed by transportation equipment ($20 million), chemicals ($14 million), miscellaneous manufactures ($12 million), and non-electrical machinery ($6 million).
Imports into California from Romania totaled $183 million in 2024, with computer and electronic products making up the largest portion of imports at $49 million. Romania is also a member of the WTO.
