CalChamber Board of Directors Votes to Support The Protect App-Based Drivers and Services Act Initiative

The California Chamber of Commerce today announced that it is in support of The Protect App-Based Drivers and Services Act Initiative following a vote by its Board of Directors yesterday.  The measure is currently pending qualification for the November 2020 ballot.

CalChamber is supporting the measure to ensure that thousands of workers continue to have access to this important work that provides a flexible option to earn income.  CalChamber believes supporting app-based drivers in the gig economy is critical to a diverse and robust economy.  In light of the recent economic turmoil created by COVID-19, it is more important than ever to do everything possible to position our state for a robust comeback.

CalChamber’s support also pivoted on the fact that the measure would provide important clarifications for determining who is an independent contractor and eliminate costly and ongoing litigation against companies in the gig economy.

Further, CalChamber strongly supports the wage and benefit guarantees outlined in the measure, as well as other protections provided for drivers and passengers.
