Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development
An update on GO-Biz International Affairs

Bud Colligan will be officially stepping down later this month
as the Sr Advisor for International Affairs and Trade
and returning
full-time to his other community, business and personal activities.

The trade community is incredibly grateful for Bud’s commitment
to the Newsom Administration and his leadership and
service in transforming GO-Biz’s international efforts.

During Colligan’s tenure at GO-Biz, the international team has grown significantly, including for the first time, new trade and investment specialists for the Americas,
Europe and Asia – see below
. In 2019, the GO-Biz international team worked closely with the Governor’s Office and Lieutenant Governor’s Office to host over 75 inbound foreign delegations and dignitaries and supported/organized two important trade, environment and diplomatic missions to Mexico and India, where multiple agreements were signed. The international team has now established regular monthly communications with Economic Development Organizations in all regions of the
state, set up regular collaboration and coordination with key partners like the
U.S. Commercial Service, and initiated the quarterly public meetings of
the International Affairs and Trade Development Interagency Committee.

Going forward, the GO-Biz International team will be led by Kaina Pereira, the
current Deputy Director of California’s Business Investment Services, which
together with the international portfolio will now be called Business Development
and International Trade.
Kaina Pereira has been successfully building and leading
the CALBIS team to attract significant new business and jobs to the state
from both domestic and international companies.

California’s New International Trade and Investment Reps:
Carlos Valderrama, Americas & Australia/NZ
Emily Desai, Europe, Middle East and Africa
Henan Li, Asia

In addition to the international trade reps, the
GO-Biz International Team contacts include:
Max Oltersdorf, Deputy Director, International Affairs and Trade
Diana Dominguez, Special Advisor for International
Affairs and Trade – Export Development
Maria Onorato, International Analyst
