CalChamber Statement on Ports Agreement

News

California Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jennifer Barrera issued the following statement in response to news earlier this week regarding the agreement reached between the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) and the Pacific Maritime Association (PMA):

“Resolution of these year-long negotiations is good news for California and the nation. More than 40% of US imports come through West Coast ports and the supply-chain industry has a huge impact on California’s economy and jobs climate. We know from recent history that any blip in the supply chain disrupts commerce, delays critical goods from reaching the market, and drives up costs for businesses and consumers. We are grateful to Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su for her role in working to bring both parties to an agreement, ensuring that California’s ports can continue to serve the people of California and the nation.”
