Vanessa M. Greene joined the CalChamber legal affairs team in January 2024. She combines her extensive knowledge of employment law and human resources to offer comprehensive compliance guidance.

Greene transitioned to the role of HR consultant in 2019 after a successful career as an employment law attorney. Her focus is on simplifying the complexities of California’s employment laws, making them more accessible and manageable for business owners. Greene’s approach combines her legal background with practical HR experience and translates legal requirements into actionable strategies for businesses, ensuring compliance while fostering a positive work environment.

As director of HR compliance and development, Greene managed a team of HR consultants at Californian HR and safety consulting firm bizhaven, where she specialized in compliance and strategic HR practices. She developed and delivered HR training sessions on subjects such as California employment law essentials for HR professionals and effective communication and conflict resolution for leaders and shared her insights and expertise with various groups including the Sacramento Entrepreneurs’ Organization, the California Independent Booksellers Alliance, and the Organizing Roots Nonprofit.

While an associate attorney with law firms in New Mexico and Sacramento, she represented and advised business clients on a variety of employment-related legal matters, including workplace investigations, wage and hour disputes, and wrongful termination claims.

During a three-year stint in the U.S. Air Force, Greene worked as a computer communications specialist in the Space and Missile Systems Center at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico where she received the Kirtland Air Force Sergeants Association “First Term Airman of the Year” Award.

Greene holds a dual B.A. in political science and European studies from the University of New Mexico and was selected for a Fred Harris Congressional Internship in 2008. She earned her J.D. from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2014.
