Coalition to President: Resolve Cross-Border Trucking Dispute
with Mexico In a recent letter to U.S. President Barack
Obama, a coalition led by the California Chamber of Commerce
Council for International Trade urged the administration to
resolve the cross-border trucking dispute with Mexico while

Kirk to consult with
Congress on Colombia trade The Obama administration
will hold extensive consultations with Congress as it begins
talks with Colombia on anti-union violence that has blocked
approval of a bilateral free trade pact for more than two
years, the top U.S. trade official said on Monday.

In Shift, Obama Doesn't Plan
to Reopen Nafta Talks The Administration has no present
plans to reopen negotiations on the North American Free Trade
Agreement to add labor and environmental protections, as
President Obama vowed to do during his campaign, the top trade
official said on Monday. New York Times, April 21,
2009.

Trade The CalChamber Council for International Trade
(CIT) is urging members of the business community to join

working to secure congressional approval of the free trade
agreements (FTAs) with Colombia, Panama and South Korea.
Companies .or associations that join the California Coalition
for Free Trade will be included on the rapidly growing list of
FTA supporters. There is no cost to join the coalition, which
will keep members apprised of its activities and how to be

Trans-Pacific Partnership
Agreement The Trans-Pacific Strategic Economic
Partnership Agreement ( the Trans-Pacific Partnership) was
signed by New Zealand, Chile, Singapore, and Brunei in the
summer of 2005. In September 2005, negotiations for the
United States to join the Trans-Pacific Agreement were
launched. Australia, Peru, and Vietnam also indicated
interest in participating in negotiations from the first

Promotion Agreement A bilateral TPA that will
lower tariffs and foster increased trade between both
countries. This agreement is a critical element of a possible
U.S.-Andean Free Trade Agreement and of the U.S. strategy to

Governor from binding the State to an international trade
agreement without specific legislation authorizing the
